I Love a Collaboration!

A terrific potter in NH contacted me to see if I would be interested in a collabortion. She created these fabulous HOUSES from clay with a small niche for a book. I immediately said YES! I went about eco-dyeing pages, they needed to be subtle, color compatible, and soft so my calligraphy would be easily visible. From that I created a cover from mica, which was a nice color for Sarah’s pottery colors. You can see this piece @League of NH Craftsmen’s Summer Fair, August 6-14.

The last step to complete the book is my hand lettered simple poem from one of my favorite poets, Tyler Knott Gregson with the words….

I

Just hope it is

Freedom

You feel.

When loving

Me.

I just hope it is

Home,

You find.

These are some of my eco-dyed papers. Using a mixture of vinegar, rust, and copper piping I place foliage and steam them. It’s always an experiment, but the results are astonishing. The top sheet is what I used in this collaboration. I needed the papers to be soft so my calligraphy would show up.
The calligraphy on the page. You can see the soft image of the ferns that I created with eco-dyeing.

All the pages laid out ready to glue together. Each page gets glued to the next and then the mica goes on the front and back.

House #2 up close…so sweet!
